“Rammstein” is a German multi-genre band that emerged in 1994. Working in industrial metal, alternative metal, hard rock, and other styles, they achieved massive popularity not only due to their music but also because of their outrageous stage behavior and complex, large-scale special effects.
The lineup has remained unchanged since the band’s founding: vocalist Till Lindemann, guitarists Richard Kruspe and Oliver Riedel, keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz, and drummer Christoph Schneider. The future global stars met in the early ’90s, and in 1994 they won a young bands competition. The prize was a week in a professional studio, and by 1995 their first album “Herzeleid” was released, followed two years later by “Sehnsucht.” Their success was total: tracks like “Du riechst so gut,” “Seemann,” and “Rammstein” became cult classics, while videos full of provocation and fire cemented their status as informal provocateurs. Their subsequent world tour confirmed this title, which did not prevent them from winning major entertainment industry awards such as the Echo Award (in prestigious categories), MTV Europe Music Awards, and even a Grammy nomination. Additionally, the band had the opportunity to work with cult director David Lynch – one of their songs became the soundtrack for his film.
Today, the band’s discography includes 8 albums, each commercially successful and bringing many new fans to their ranks. Their songs are dark and majestic, lyrical, yet always intellectually rich – another hallmark of the band.
